IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER FOR YOUR INTERVIEW

  • Dress for success.  Professional business clothes are always appropriate, no matter what type of job you are interviewing for. Proper hygiene is very important. Don’t wear a baseball hat; chew gum or wear a lot of perfume. Make sure your cell phone is OFF or leave it in the car. Make sure it is put away during your interview.
  • Be there on time.  Arrive 5-10 minutes early. Find out exactly how long it will take you to get there keeping traffic in mind. If possible drive there a day or two ahead at the same time to see exactly how long it will take. If you take the bus, be certain of bus schedules.
  • Firm Handshake.  Be sure to look the interviewer in the eye and give a firm handshake.
  • Be prepared.  Know about the company and position you are applying for.   Look up the company’s website so you are familiar with what they do.
  • Be confident.  Understand the position you have applied for and let them know how your qualifications are suitable for the position
  • Speak clearly.  Don’t use slang words, make your answers clear and make eye contact with the person that is interviewing you.
  • Body language.  Don’t slouch in your chair or lean over the interviewer’s desk.
  • Listen to the questions.  If you don’t understand, ask for clarification.
  • Think before you speak.  Think about your responses.  Do not discuss any personal or financial problems.
  • Don’t linger after the interview.  Leave once the interview is over.  Shake the interviewers hand again; reiterate your interest in working for the organization and thank them for their time.
